The Prachtgrundkärpflinge ( Nothobranchius ) are a genus of the family Nothobranchiidae . The name is derived from the Greek words nothos = "false" and branchion = "gills".
habitat
The genus is native to East Africa. The individual types have z. Sometimes a very small distribution area, which could also be due to the inadequate systematic research. All species colonize ponds and ponds in the savannah that form in the rainy season and almost always dry out in the dry season . These are seasonal fish that only have a short life expectancy of less than a year in nature. Under standard conditions as a laboratory animal, different species can be significantly older than 12 months.
Appearance
Prachtgrundkärpflinge have a stocky body shape, the body is particularly high and brawny with the males. The fish are only 4–7 cm tall. The genus includes extremely colorful species.
