Panagiotis "Notis" Sfakianakis ( Greek Παναγιώτης "Νότης" Σφακιανάκης , born November 2, 1959 in Heraklion , Crete ) is one of the most successful Greek singers with five million records sold worldwide .

Life

Notis Sfakianakis was born to Konstantinos († 1997) and Maria Sfakianakis. His father was a gardener at the park of Nikos Kazantzakis and came from Crete . His mother comes from Asia Minor . Notis is married to Kylie Sfakianakis and has two children.

After his parents separated, Notis moved with his mother to relatives on the island of Kos at the age of 7 and grew up there. Notis ended his school career after the 7th grade and worked e.g. B. as a gas and water plumber, electrician or waiter in cafes and live clubs. During stays with his mother, who had moved to Munich, he was employed as a cleaner in a home for the disabled. Since 1975 he has worked as a DJ in clubs and discos on Kos. There he also met his future wife Kylie, to whom he has been married since May 4, 1994, in early 1981.

At the beginning of 1985 Notis rented the discotheque "Apollon 1" and converted it into a live club. He himself played the drums and sang professionally for the first time. In August of the same year, Notis appeared as a singer in the larger club "Apollon 2". In 1987, Notis went to Athens , but was unsuccessful. In the summer of 1988 he received another offer from a club in Athens. But he did not meet the requirement to remove the earring he had worn since 1975 and waived. He then performed in the Anetta club. There he regularly appeared on stage at 3:30 a.m., right after the artist Poly Panou . She always greeted him with the words: "Now Notis will sing, come rulers (Archontas)!" She was the first to give him this nickname, which made him a myth in Greece as the "ruler of the night".

Sfakianakis is a supporter of the neo-Nazi party Chrysi Avgi . The singer Despina Vandi then distanced herself from Sfakianakis.
