The Nova Ljubljanska banka dd ( NLB ) is a Slovenian bank based in Ljubljana . It is the largest Slovenian bank. In 2009 the company had total assets of 15.5 billion euros and a pre-tax loss of 23 million euros. The CEO is Marjan Kramer .

history

Nova Ljubljanska banka was founded on July 27, 1994. It took over part of the assets and business of Ljubljanska banka, dd , a credit institute founded in 1970 - that is, in the Yugoslav period of Slovenia . The company dates back to 1889, when - during the Austro-Hungarian Empire - a local savings bank called Mestna hranilnica ljubljanska was founded.

In 2002 the Belgian KBC Group acquired a 34% stake in Nova Ljubljanska Banka. At the end of 2011 this share was still 25%, that of the Slovenian state 45.62%.

In April 2007 Nova Ljubljanska banka acquired 50.1% of the shares of the third largest bank in Kosovo , Kasabank .

NLB is the majority owner of LHB Internationale Handelsbank AG , which was founded in 1974 as a cooperation between Ljubljanska banka and Hessische Landesbank .

Others

After the collapse of Yugoslavia , the whereabouts of about 60 million US dollars in savings of Croatian citizens in the Zagreb branch of Ljubljanska banka (now Nova Ljubljanska Banka ) remained unclear. Croatia accuses Slovenia of transferring savings to Slovenia. Slovenia rejects any guilt and insists that the savings were transferred to Croatia with Croatia's independence. Croatia demands a refund of savings deposits to all savers at Ljubljanska banka. Because of the opaque situation, no solution is yet in sight. A Croatian guest worker is currently pending a lawsuit at the Memmingen Regional Court, with which Nova Ljubljanska Banka, as the legal successor of Ljubljanska Banka, is being sued for the payment of the savings credit. The competent higher regional court has already decided that savers can in principle turn to German courts if they were living in Germany at the time the savings account was opened. In November 2012, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) also ruled that the Republic of Slovenia is liable for any loss of savings.

Sponsorship

Nova Ljubljanska banka is the main sponsor of the transnational Adriatic Basketball League , also known as the NLB League.
