Hilberath is a village in the Ahr Mountains , today a district of Rheinbach in the Rhein-Sieg district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

The place is located around 8.5 km south of the city center on the heights of the Voreifel in the Ahr Mountains directly on the border with Rhineland-Palatinate . Neighboring towns are in the southeast Kalenborn with access to the B 257 , in the northwest the Rheinbacher district Todenfeld , in the southwest Berg and in the northeast Gelsdorf with access to the A 565 and the Meckenheim district Altendorf .

The place is structured agriculturally and also a place of residence for commuters to Rheinbach, Meckenheim and the Cologne Bay.

history

The place is first mentioned in the Liber valoris around 1274 . Together with his suburb of Todenfeld, Hilberath formed its own court in the Tomberg office. The place belonged to the Duke von Jülich and the other half to the Lords of Dalwigk until around 1800.

Hilberath was incorporated into the city of Rheinbach on August 1, 1969.

The baroque Martinskirche has the oldest playable organ in the Rhineland.
