Church of Saint Giles

Oberdrees is a district of Rheinbach , but also a town in the Rhein-Sieg district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

geography

The place is about 3.0 km northwest of the core city on the old Roman road from Niederzier to Kripp (today Bundesstraße 266 ), a section of the old military road from Aachen to Frankfurt. The route of the former Roman aqueduct from the Eifel to Cologne ran south of the village . Numerous finds in the area attest to the Roman settlement, parts of which are exhibited in Rheinbach.

history

The village of Dreisa (Oberdrees) is first mentioned in a document from the year 856. At that time, King Lothar II awarded a vassal Otbert, among other things, goods in Oberdrees. In a list of goods from the Prüm Abbey from 893, Oberdrees is listed as Dreyse .

Today the street names Frankenstrasse and Odinstrasse are reminiscent of the Franconian settlement of the place.

Oberdrees was incorporated into the city of Rheinbach on August 1, 1969.

Infrastructure

In addition to the old village center - there are still various half-timbered houses and agricultural farms here - the village also features a settlement from the post-war period. In the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, moderate new development areas emerged inside and on the periphery of the town. Oberdrees also has a small industrial park.

The Voreifelbahn runs south of Oberdrees .

Culture

In addition to various carnival highlights, the local committee and associations also organize village festivals such as the May festival, shooting festival, street festivals, summer festivals, fairgrounds, autumn markets, sporting events, senior citizens' parties and Christmas parties.
