occupation

Only the gun was his god (original title: La colt era il suo Dio ) is a cheaply produced spaghetti western , which is counted among the worst representatives of the genre. Luigi Batzella directed 1972; German-language premiere was on November 19, 1999 on a private television station. Alternative title is The Avenger's Colt .

action

In Lanford City, Manuel's gang, who work for the dishonest Inspector Klinger, terrorize the region's farmers. Army Captain Jackson, himself from Lanford, is sent to the city as a secret agent; he has five days to fight the outlaws.

Klinger is meanwhile in possession of a map that leads to a silver mine; Because of her he killed Burton Prior and kidnapped his daughter Mary, Jackson's former girlfriend, whom he carries with him as a bargaining chip. Jackson is able to eliminate most of the bandits and follows Jackson, who flees to Mexico, where he is imprisoned by the arrogant but hare-footed Manuel after an argument with him.

When he manages to escape, however, the captain can put Klinger in a final duel and defeat him.

criticism

“Vengeful spaghetti western”, “tiredly staged and undemanding; just another example of the abuse of religious topics as titles ”and“ eminently difficult to get through ”are the judgments of some critics.

Remarks

The director Batzella shot three westerns, each reusing parts of the other. Here the adopted parts were re-synchronized in order to adapt them to the (not very different from the other) plot.

Theo Maria Werner (anonymous) was also involved in the production.
