Nurettin Zafer

Nurettin Zafer (* 1920 in Bolu , † 1992 ) was a Turkish wrestler and world champion in 1951 in freestyle featherweight.

Career

Nurettin Zafer grew up in Bolu and began his career as an oil wrestler . From 1943 Nurettin also devoted herself to Olympic wrestling in Istanbul and soon achieved great success in this sport. He belonged to the wrestling club "Fatih" Istanbul and was already 29 years old when he made his first appearance at an international championship at the European Freestyle Championships in Istanbul in 1949. In Istanbul he defeated the Swedish Olympic champion from 1948 Olle Anderberg in featherweight , but lost to the Iranian Hassan Sadian and came in 3rd place.

At the World Championships in Helsinki in 1951 , Nurettin then achieved great success, he became world featherweight champion. On the way to this title he won u. a. also against the German champion Ferdinand Schmitz from Cologne , certainly on points.

For the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 Nurettin Zafer was no longer nominated after differences with the Turkish Wrestling Association. He then stepped back.
