Nurs (now Kepirli ) is a village in the district of Hizan in the Eastern Anatolian Turkish province of Bitlis . Nurs is about 85 km southeast of the provincial capital Bitlis and 28 km southeast of Hizan. According to the last census, Nurs had 839 inhabitants (as of 2013). The village lies in an elongated valley at approx. 1850 m above sea level.
The original place name is of Armenian origin and is Nurs or more correctly Nors. In 1960 the place name was renamed Kepirli in the course of the Turkishization of geographical names . On June 28, 2012, the old name Nurs was re-established.
The Kurdish-Turkish Islamic scholar Said Nursi , whose last name is derived from the village name, was born in Nurs . The village attracts thousands of visitors every year due to the birthplace of Said Nursi.
