Nya (* 1970 ) is a Swiss rapper .

Nya lived in the USA for several years in his youth, where he was first influenced by Linton Kwesi Johnson and Benjamin Zepheniah and then discovered hip-hop from Grandmaster Flash and Afrika Bambaataa and the group Run-DMC .

In 1990 he moved to Lausanne, where he studied political science. In 1991 he was one of the founders of the rap group Real Audio Warfare . With keyboardist Pierre Audétat and rapper Ndagijé , he founded the multicultural group Silent Majority in 1992 , which was joined by bassist Marcello Giuliani , drummer Christophe Calpini and DJ Goo and with which he recorded two albums and an EP. Since the mid-1990s, Nya has worked regularly with the electro jazz musician Erik Truffaz . Between 1996 and 2002 he toured worldwide with him and worked on several of his albums.

He has been writing his own tracks since 1999, which he first performed in 2001 with Pierre Audétat. Then he worked u. a. with Patrick Muller Escape , DJ Goo, the groups Mobile in Motion , Stade and the band Brink Man Ship initiated by Jan Galega Brönnimann . In recent years he has mainly performed with the jazz band Sknail .
