The Nyainqêntanglha (also Nyenchen Tanglha , officially Nyainqêntanglha Feng , Tibetan གཉན་ ཆེན་ ཐང་ ལྷ་ Wylie Gnyan-chen-thang-lha ; Chinese : 念青唐古拉 峰, Pinyin : Niànqīng Tánggǔlā Fēng ) is the highest mountain in the Transhimalaya . It is located in the Nyainqêntanglha Mountains, the eastern half of the Transhimalaya. Within Tibet, the mountains form the watershed between the Yarlung Tsangpo ( Brahmaputra overflow) and the Nu Jiang (Saluen) .

In addition to the 7,162  m high main peak (also Nyainqêntanglha I ), the Nyainqêntanglha has other secondary peaks:

  • Nyainqêntanglha II ( 7117  m , ), 3.19 km northwest of the main summit
  • Nyainqêntanglha III ( 7111  m , ), 1.82 km northwest of the main summit
  • Nyainqêntanglha IV ( 7046  m , ), 1.51 km east of the main summit

Surname

The Tibetan name Nyainqêntanglha means "great Nyain, god of the heavenly planes". This powerful, healing and benevolent deity is also known in Tibet under the names Thanglha Yashur, Yashur Nyengyilha, Dorje Barwatsel or Dorje Chorabtsel.

Ascent history

The first ascent was made by members of a Japanese expedition on May 8, 1986.
