Nymphula is a genus of butterflies from the family Crambidae ( Crambidae ).
features
There are ocelles on the head . In the males, the antennae are scaled dorsally and ciliate ventrally . The maxillary palps are slender and closely fitting scales. The proboscis is short and rolled up. He lies face down. The labial palps are about 1.5 times as long as the diameter of the eye. The terminal segment is closely scaled, while the other segments have rough scales ventrally. The spur formula is 0-2-4, epiphyses are present. The veins R 2 to R 4 are petiolate on the forewings. M 1 arises on the forewing in the middle between R 5 and M 2 . CuP is missing. On the hind wing, M 1 is cross-connected to the stem of SC + R 1 + RS via a relatively long vein . The frenulum consists of several bristles.
The Valven are proximal provided with a pretty hefty Anellifer. The ductus bursae is moderately long and has no additional sac. The double signum is greatly reduced, a colliculum is present.
The caterpillars have no tracheal gills .
distribution
The genus is distributed throughout the Palearctic except for North Africa.
biology
Young caterpillars first mine in the leaves, later in the stems of the host plants. The adult caterpillars live in an enclosure made from parts of plants.
Systematics
The assignment of most of the species to the genus Nymphula is uncertain, as insufficient information is available about the pre-imaginal stages. Only the species Nymphula corculina , known from Japan, can definitely be assigned to the genus.
