Oğuz Büyükberber

Oğuz Büyükberber (* 1970 in Kayseri ) is a Turkish musician ( clarinets , electronics, also alto saxophone , flute , piano , keyboard ) who now lives in the Netherlands , who combines jazz and improvisation with Turkish and contemporary music in his playing .

Live and act

Büyükberber first completed a design degree at Mimar Sinan Üniversitesi in 1994 , where he was honored as the best clarinetist in an internal university competition. As a musician, he first worked with the Yeşil Uzumler Modern Dance Group before founding his own band Kaçan Keçi . In 1997 he first appeared with Ayşe Tütüncü , whose trio he was a long-time member. In 1999 and 2000, the readers of the Turkish jazz magazine Jazz Dergisi voted him the best bass clarinetist.

At the Conservatorium van Amsterdam , Büyükberber studied bass clarinet with Harry Sparnaay and composition with Theo Loevendie (Bachelor 2005, Master 2007). During his career he worked a. a. with Simon Nabatov , Gerry Hemingway , Guus Janssen , Claudio Puntin , Sophie Hassfurther and Wolfgang Reisinger . He also includes the visual arts in his own projects .

Büyükberber presented itself at the Istanbul International Jazz Festival , the Talos Festival , the North Sea Jazz Festival as well as at the Traumzeit Festival . In the field of jazz he was involved in 17 recording sessions between 1995 and 2011.
