Life and work

Krimmel studied communication design at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, where he was awarded the Erwin Heinle Prize as the best graduate of his year . During his studies he founded the design agency “i_d buero” together with the designer Anja Osterwalder. One of the agency's first customers was the hip-hop band “ Die Fantastischen Vier ”, for whom Krimmel also shot their very first music video “ Jetzt geht's ab ”. This was followed by the design of several albums for the Fantas and other bands. In the following years the agency specialized more and more in design in the cultural sector.

Parallel to the work of his agency, Krimmel repeatedly realized solo cultural projects, including numerous font designs for the "Garagefonts" founded by design star David Carson (1995) or taking part in group exhibitions at the Württembergischer Kunstverein . This was followed by teaching positions for typography and photography at the Merz Academy and the Media University (HdM). Krimmel directed the film project "Das war Spitze" (2001, with Florian Fickel), which was supported by the Baden-Württemberg Film Fund , and was co-founder of the time-based urban art guerrilla gallery "Hotel deVil" (2008, with Prof. Thilo Rothacker) , in which his own photo exhibition "ShowDown" took place.

From 2010 onwards, OA Krimmel worked again increasingly as a book author and editor. He was particularly interested in outstanding “sky-stormers”. Books were created about the great German designer Kurt Weidemann , the actor Klaus Kinski , the Stuttgart television tower , the inventor of the Afri-Cola advertising Charles Paul Wilp and the German humorist Vicco von Bülow alias Loriot .

OA Krimmel lives and works in Stuttgart .
