With its unmistakable sound and the line-up of jazz soloists / guest soloists of international standing (especially the US trumpeter Art Farmer , the US saxophonist Jimmy Heath and the US bassists Jimmy Woode and Wayne Darling), the ORF Big Band stood out ) created an excellent reputation as a jazz-oriented radio big band, not only in German-speaking countries, but also internationally. The musicians Fritz Pauer on piano, Harry Pepl on guitar, Jimmy Woode on bass and Erich Bachträgl on drums were the beating heart of the ORF Big Band. The ORF Big Band was regularly on the then jazz-oriented ORF channel Austria 3 listen, especially in the Ö3 series "Jazz mit Erich Kleinschuster" and "Big-Band-Sound in Stereo", which ran until 1980.
