The Oberberg Kliniken are private acute clinics within the meaning of Section 107 SGB V under private sponsorship. They offer medical-psychotherapeutic treatment for mentally, psychosomatically and psychiatrically ill people. Treatment focuses on depression , addiction disorders , burnout , anxiety and panic disorders, as well as trauma , personality and obsessive-compulsive disorders . At the Oberberg Kliniken locations, the Oberberg model is used, which focuses on the perception of the patient's emotional profile. Doctors as patients are a special target group.

The Oberberg Kliniken belong to the Oberbergkliniken GmbH, whose holding company is based in Berlin.

Treatment model

Matthias Gottschaldt's Oberberg model is based on the assumption that every person has a different emotional personality profile that is unique to them and therefore requires therapy that is specially tailored to them. In contrast to forms of therapy that are schematized in terms of content and time, patients are treated individually and intensively without being committed to a single therapeutic school. The treatment concept should enable a process of becoming aware of the individual personality in addition to the pure treatment of the sick.

The therapist-patient ratio is almost 1: 2. This guarantees a therapy with usually daily individual and group discussions, carried out by different therapists with different procedures. The nutritional concept from Oberberg also plays a central role, as a balanced diet should be helpful in the therapy process. The aim is to enable patients, who are mostly in high demand at work, to quickly return to their everyday lives in a healthy manner.

Therapy procedure

The Oberberg clinics work according to the Oberberg model, which has a cross-school therapy approach. The therapy offer of the Oberberg Kliniken can be divided into the following categories:

  1. Psychotherapies (including cognitive behavioral therapy , acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioral analysis system of psychotherapy (CBASP) , dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), schema therapy )
  2. Biological therapies (including psychopharmacotherapy , light therapy , waking therapy, therapy for secondary trauma disorders)
  3. Specialist therapies (including exercise / sports therapy, physiotherapy , creative therapies, occupational therapy , animal-assisted therapies, family counseling, anxiety management training, family counseling)
  4. Stress reduction / relaxation procedures (including progressive muscle relaxation (PMR), aromatherapy , acupuncture , yoga , body scan, meditation , autogenic training )

Doctor health

The topic of medical health is closely linked to the Oberberg Kliniken, as Matthias Gottschaldt's own mental illness was the reason for the establishment of the clinic. According to their own statements, several thousand doctors from all disciplines were treated in the Oberberg Kliniken. At the Oberberg Foundation Matthias Gottschaldt , founded by Edda Gottschaldt in memory of the work of her husband , the topic is a focus that is scientifically analyzed and implemented operationally.

In cooperation with the medical associations, Matthias Gottschaldt developed a curriculum for dependent doctors, which aims to maintain a job, reintegrate into the workforce and obtain a license to practice medicine or approval. The curriculum provides for regular follow-up examinations to prove abstinence after inpatient therapy. Upon request, the patient's curriculum can be bindingly agreed with the supervisory bodies (e.g. medical associations, statutory health insurance associations, regional councils, medical officers, superiors, authorities).

The successful implementation of the curriculum provides for inpatient weaning therapy (usually in the Oberberg Kliniken) with a favorable prognosis. In addition, post-inpatient, outpatient therapy measures must be implemented. However, the program does not replace outpatient therapy close to home. If, after successful therapy, there is limited substance use without relapse dynamics (“slip” or “lapse”), the program can be extended if necessary. If a real relapse dynamic develops, the program is interrupted and the patient is advised to undergo inpatient relapse treatment, which is also offered by Oberberg Kliniken. The program will then resume if necessary.

The concept of Matthias Gottschaldt, who was confronted with the professional and social dimension of his own addiction illness as a person affected in the 1980s , is also applied to other professional groups (e.g. teachers, pharmacists, lawyers, civil servants).

Network and aftercare

As with inpatient treatment , outpatient follow-up care at the Oberberg Kliniken is planned and organized together with the patient. In order to organize the transition to everyday life, the essential caregivers are called in during the inpatient stay. For patients who have already been in therapy, the therapist concerned will also be included at the end of the inpatient phase.

In addition to the clinic locations, there are Oberberg City Centers nationwide, in which pre- and post-inpatient treatment is offered.

In addition, the patients of the Oberberg Kliniken have set up their own network of self-help groups, the Oberberg groups, in which former patients meet to give each other support and assistance after their inpatient stay.

If necessary, the Oberberg Kliniken offer a - usually shorter - second therapy or interval therapy as a continuation and supplement to the initial inpatient treatment. It is planned and agreed upon at the time of discharge. The aim is for the patient to be able to consolidate the therapeutic success of the first treatment phase during a further inpatient stay. The interval therapy is usually carried out within four to six months after the first inpatient treatment.
