Obere Stadtmühlgasse 7 (Weißenburg in Bavaria)
The house at Obere Stadtmühlgasse 7 is a commercial building, a former restaurant and a former brewery ( Brauerei Fottner ) within the listed old town of the Middle Franconian town of Weißenburg in Bavaria in the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district . The building is registered under the monument number D-5-77-177-305 as an architectural monument in the Bavarian monument list.
history
The building at Obere Stadtmühlgasse 7 was built in 1878 as a residential building. It stands at the lowest point of the old town in the area of the southern city expansion from 1376. In 1894 the ash collector Eduard Reindel moved his restaurant from the building opposite to the right side of the property at Obere Stadtmühlgasse 7. In the summer of 1908, Georg Fottner took over the restaurant and from 1909 Fottner started with it the brewing of wheat beer. Although this only took place in a small vat in the club room, it is considered the beginning of the Fottner brewery . The townspeople only ever talked about the Fottner and less about the “gray goat”. At the end of 1969 the brewery ceased operations. In 1970 the Hofmühl private brewery from Eichstätt acquired the property and converted the brewery. The restaurant business continued until 1995. In 2001 the building was rebuilt and renovated and a doctor's practice was set up on the ground floor.
