The Obere Muntanitzpalfen is a 3170 m above sea level. A. high mountain peaks of the Granatspitz group in East Tyrol . It was first discovered on September 2, 1871 by A. v. Schmid and Th. Groder committed over the southeast rise.
location
The Obere Muntanitzpalfen is located in the south of the Granatspitz group in the core zone of the Hohe Tauern National Park on the border of the communities of Matrei in East Tyrol in the west and Kals am Großglockner in the east. It is the highest of the three Muntanitzpalfen, which consist of the Upper Muntanitzpalfen in the north, the Middle Muntanitzpalfen ( 3110 m above sea level ) and the Lower Muntanitzpalfen ( 3066 m above sea level ) in the south. The Obere Muntanitzpalfen lies not far southeast of the Großer Muntanitz ( 3232 m above sea level ), from which the Obere Muntanitzpalfen is separated by the Palfenscharte ( 3150 m above sea level ). The Obere Muntanitzpalfen lies on the so-called Loameswand, a steep north face that stretches from the Grauer Schimme over the Muntanitz and the Obere Muntanitzpalfen to further east. South of the Upper Muntanitzpalfen lies the Gradötzkees , which extends between the Wellachköpf , the Muntanitz and the Muntanitzpalfen. To the north is the Loameskees. The closest valley is the Kalser Dorfertal to the east .
Promotion opportunities
The normal route to the little-used Upper Muntanitzpalfen starts at the Sudetendeutschen Hütte . From the hut you first climb to Gradötzkees and then cross it to Kampl , from where you climb diagonally right to the rocks and reach the Palfenscharte. The Obere Muntanitzpalfen can be reached quickly from the Palfenscharte ( II ). In addition to the normal route, the Obere Muntanitzpalfen can be climbed in several different ways, the south-east ascent of the first climbers leads from the Kalser Dorfertal to the Muntanitzpalfen ( II ). There are also variants, for example via the east ridge ( III ) and the south ridge ( III ).
