Obermeidling is part of Vienna's 12th district of Meidling . In the 19th century Obermeidling formed an independent community.
geography
Obermeidling is located in the northwest of the municipality south of the Vienna River on the Green Mountain . The location of Obermeidling is also reflected in its coat of arms: a golden mill wheel stands for earlier mills on the Vienna River, while a green mountain is depicted in the lower part of the coat of arms. To the west of Obermeidling is the Schönbrunn Palace . Obermeidling borders Untermeidling to the east and Hetzendorf to the south .
history
In 1806 the Viennese suburb of Meidling was divided into Obermeidling and Untermeidling after corresponding plans had already been submitted in 1784. The new municipality of Obermeidling consisted of a row of houses on "Anger an der Wien" and villas on Grüner Berg. The densely built-up area was bordered by the Wien River, Grünbergstrasse, Tivoligasse and Rotenmühlgasse. The historical center of Meidling - located on Meidlinger Hauptstrasse between Lobkowitzbrücke and Tivoligasse - fell to Untermeidling. In 1830, the Tivoli entertainment establishment was opened in the south of Obermeidling , and its operations ceased in 1967. In 1890/1892 Obermeidling was incorporated into Vienna and since then has belonged to the 12th Viennese district of Meidling.
