geography

View from the south

Obermutten lies at an altitude of 1863 meters on the north slope of the Muttnerhorn and east of the Muttner Höhi on the saddle between the Hinterrhein and the Albula . It consists of around thirty wooden houses. Some of the original farmhouses have been converted into holiday homes. A hotel / restaurant offers accommodation and catering.

Like Mutten, the German-speaking Obermutten is a Walser settlement in the middle of Graubünden Romanesque communities. It is conceivable that the settlement was laid out in the 14th century by the barons of Vaz to secure the narrow pass strip between their possessions in Schams and the Albula valley .

The lower-lying district of Stafel (1750 m) belongs to Obermutten. In winter the two districts are connected by a ski lift.

Village fire

17 wooden houses and stables fell victim to the village fire of 1946. The reconstruction took place with the help of donations.

Attractions

The wooden church , a stage stop on the Graubünden Walser Trail , is a listed building .
