Obersaal is a district in the Lückerath district of Bergisch Gladbach .

history

The settlement name Obersaal describes part of the former Saaler estate . According to the tax, lease and tribute lists of 1487, the corresponding high medieval settlement was part of the Bensberg tax authorities . Saal is derived from the Old High German "salida / selida" (= house, hut, apartment) or the Middle High German "selde / sölde" (= apartment, house, royal seat, residence). It therefore generally refers to a place of residence.

In 1895 the village had 27 residents and six houses. It belonged to the mayor's office Bensberg and the parish Refrath .
