Obitara is a district of Agadez in Niger .

Obitara is one of eleven historic area of the UNESCO World Heritage counting old town of Agadez , the south-western outskirts it forms. The adjacent old town in the north is Amdit .

The place name means "market outside the city". The population is subordinate to the Gonto of Obitara, a traditional mayor who acts as a middleman between the Sultan of Agadez and the residents. The inhabitants of Obitara have the privilege to produce the battoti (singular: batta ), richly varied ornate leather containers, which are primarily used to store fragrances. Many of the craftsmen who make them are also marabouts .

The annual Mouloud celebration in honor of the Prophet Mohammed is celebrated in Agadez according to a constant scheme in different locations. On the morning of the second day of Mouloud, the Adani Mosque in Obitara is the center of the celebrations.

At the 2012 census, Obitara had 5,138 residents living in 864 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 4,383 in 699 households, and at the 1988 census, the population was 3,322 in 523 households.
