Akanfaya is a district of Agadez in Niger .

Akanfaya is one of eleven historic area of the UNESCO World Heritage counting old town of Agadez , in the center of which it lies. The adjacent old town quarters are Founé Imé in the northwest, Amarewat in the north, Oumourdan Magass in the east, Agar Garin Saka in the south and Hougbéry in the southwest.

Akanfaya is named after El Hadji Akanfaya, an influential resident who ruled the neighborhood. Historically, Akanfaya is one of the three districts of the Tuareg confederation Kel Owey, alongside Oumourdan Magass and Oumourdan Nafala . These quarters are characterized by many paddocks for camels called agajir and by temporary residences for foreign nomads called guida-n- baki . The population is subordinate to the Gonto von Akanfaya, a traditional mayor who acts as a middleman between the Sultan of Agadez and the residents.

One of the sights in the district is the palace of Anastafidet, the leader of the Kel-Owey-Tuareg. At the annual Bianou festival , the town's youth gather here to compete in songs and dances. The annual Mouloud celebration in honor of the Prophet Mohammed is also celebrated in Agadez according to a constant scheme at different locations. The Fanna Mosque in Akanfaya is one of the mosques where the celebrations begin on the evening of the first day of Mouloud.

At the 2012 census, Akanfaya had 476 residents who lived in 66 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 852 in 136 households, and at the 1988 census, the population was 295 in 54 households.
