Amarewat (also: Amareoutt , Amarouett ) is a district of Agadez in Niger .

Amarewat is one of eleven historic area of the UNESCO World Heritage counting old town of Agadez , the north-eastern end there is. The neighboring old town quarters are Oumourdan Magass in the southeast, Akanfaya in the south, Founé Imé in the southwest and Katanga in the west.

Historically, it is the district of the Tuareg group Itesen. The population is subordinate to the Gonto von Amarewat, a traditional mayor who acts as a middleman between the Sultan of Agadez and the residents.

Amarewat is a center of women-run pottery . This had an impact on the architecture, so many of the houses are single-story and have larger inner courtyards than in other parts of the city. The pottery produced includes saucepans ( toukougna ), couscous pots ( madambatchi ), water containers ( télé ), a kind of amphora ( toulou ), small portable ovens ( kasto-n-wouta ) and fragrance lamps ( kasko-n-touraré ).

The annual Mouloud celebration in honor of the Prophet Mohammed is celebrated in Agadez according to a constant scheme in different locations. The Abadede Mosque in Amarewat is a center of the celebrations with Koran readings and prayers on the first four days of Mouloud.

At the 2012 census, Amarewat had 1,385 inhabitants who lived in 224 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 1915 in 306 households, and at the 1988 census, the population was 1,360 in 251 households.
