The Obnica is a 25 km long river in the Kolubara Okrug in north-western central Serbia . It is one of the two headwaters of the Kolubara .
Run
The source of Obnica rises on the eastern slopes of Mount Medvednik . The Medvednik stands about 30 km west of the city of Valjevo .
After about 25 km to the east, the Obnica meets the Jablanica river, coming from the south , about one kilometer before Valjevo, at the Vidrak hill . The confluence with the Jablanica forms the source of the Kolubara. The Kolubara, for its part, joins the Save after about 123 km at Obrenovac .
Surname
According to I. Duridanov, the river name Obnica (Obna) comes from the Illyrian period of the Balkan Peninsula . But A. Loma assumes that the river name derives from the Celtic word for river ( Abona ), which is a toponym that occurs in many places in Europe .
