properties

Chemical properties

Octylisothiazolinone can degrade in the environment through hydrolysis , photolysis , microbial degradation, or exposure to nucleophilic particles.

use

Due to its fungicidal effect , octylisothiazolinone is used as a film preservative to protect a coating film, as a wood preservative (until 2006) and in cooling lubricants , roof paints, printing inks and textiles. Trade names of formulations containing octylisothiazolinone are, for example, RH-893 , Kathon 893 or Skane M8 .

Biological importance

As sensitization is possible with skin contact, products with a concentration of 500 ppm or more must be labeled on the packaging.
