Oddvar Saga (born January 2, 1934 in Vegårshei , † January 8, 2000 ) was a Norwegian ski jumper .

Career

Saga, who competed for the Horten SK , started at the Four Hills Tournament in 1961/62 for his first international tournament. At the opening competition on the Schattenbergschanze in Oberstdorf he surprised the competition with third place. It remained the best single result of the tour. In Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Innsbruck he ended up outside of the top 20. Only in Bischofshofen on the Paul-Ausserleitner-Schanze did he end up in the top ten again in eighth place. In the overall standings he was the best Norwegian with 830.4 points and finished 9th.

Saga was later one of the favorites for the Norwegian team at the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck . However, Torgeir Brandtzæg , Toralf Engan , Bjørn Wirkola , Hans Olav Sørensen and Torbjørn Yggeseth got priority and started for Norway.

In 1993 the Aftenposten reported that Saga was one of the three "great Norwegian personalities" from Vegårshei , along with Ole Colbjørnsen and a wolf .
