Odoardo Vecchiarelli (* 1613 in Rieti ; † July 31, 1667 in Rome ) was an Italian bishop and cardinal .

Life

Vecchiarelli was born in Rieti in 1613 as a member of a patrician family.

On April 29, 1658, Pope Alexander VII announced his elevation to cardinal in pectore in the consistory . On April 5, 1660 he received the cardinal's hat from Pope Alexander VII and was appointed cardinal deacon of Santi Cosma e Damiano .

The appointment as Bishop of Rieti took place on May 5, 1660 by Pope Alexander VII and the episcopal ordination on June 6, 1660 by Cardinal Giulio Rospigliosi , later Pope Clement IX.

Cardinal Vecchiarelli took part in the conclave of 1667 , in which Clement IX. was elected Pope.

Vecchiarelli died on July 31, 1667 in his palace in Rome in Piazza Nicosia. He received his final resting place in the grave of his uncle in the church of San Pietro in Vincoli . A memorial plaque for the deceased cardinal is located above the west door of the cathedral in Rieti.
