Oeynhausen [ 'ø: inhaʊzən ] is a western town in the city of Nieheim in the Höxter district , North Rhine-Westphalia . On December 31, 2018, the place had 478 inhabitants.

Oeynhausen is bordered by the core town of Nieheim in the east, the town of Pömbsen in the town of Bad Driburg in the south, the towns of Himmighausen and Merlsheim in the town of Nieheim in the west and the Bergheim district of the town of Steinheim in the north (all in the Höxter district).

A first document from the year 936 mentions the place under the name Agingehusen . Later it was referred to in the Busdorf deed in 1036 as a main courtyard with Oggenhusen Castle , with the castle being the official court of the bishops of Paderborn , as confirmed by excavations from the late 1980s. To this homestead in the form of a created heap village which formed village Oeynhausen.

From 1529 the landowners were the lords of Oeynhausen , who later transferred the property as a fief to the lords of Spiegel zum Desenberg , who administered it until the 19th century.

Between 1832 and 1849 Oeynhausen was the location of a station of the Prussian optical telegraph between Berlin and Koblenz. This station with the number 32 was reconstructed on the old foundation walls between 1983 and 1984 on the initiative of the Oeynhausen Heimatverein. It can be visited.

On January 1, 1970, Oeynhausen was incorporated into the city of Nieheim.

In addition, there was a military base of the British armed forces on Bilster Berg , about 3 kilometers south of the village from 1973 to 1993 .
