Open ExTempore for visual art in the Berchtesgadener Land

An Open ExTempore for visual art in the Berchtesgadener Land has been organized since 2012 for an extended June weekend (Thursday to Sunday) within the Berchtesgadener Land district by the municipalities of the Berchtesgadener Land district that gives it its name . The currently last Extempore of 2020 was held for the first time in winter.

history

This series of art events was initiated in 2012 by the painter , gallery owner and art educator Peter Karger, who then also took over the organization of the events. Upper school students from the CJD Christophorus Schools in Berchtesgaden , whom he had taught until his retirement (2016), supported him in this. The respective municipalities and their mayors acted as the main organizers and patrons within the Berchtesgadener Land , who also provided the appropriate rooms for the finale with the hanging and awarding of the works created within a few days. The jury consisted of five to six visual artists from Germany, Italy, Croatia and Austria.

For the participants of these Extempores , main prizes were awarded in the form of cash prizes and, since 2014, in the form of vouchers for hotel stays worth 1500, 1000 and 750 euros for the first to third prizes. In the youth ranking there were cash prizes between 200 and 50 euros as well as numerous prizes for the participating children. The number of participants has so far fluctuated from 60 to 150 people from up to five nations, including always some trained or professional visual artists.

The first four extempores (2012-2016) followed one another annually, then only in 2018 the next and then in 2020 for the first time in winter the currently last extempore of this kind.

  • Participation in an Extempore for visual art in the Berchtesgadener Land is open to everyone, regardless of any requirements .
  • Duration of the event: Four consecutive days from Thursday to Sunday, usually in June of each year (for the first time in February 2020).
  • In the period from Thursday to Saturday, participants can show an empty image carrier (paper, canvas, etc.), stamp it and then hand it in with one of two topics. There is a choice of two topics relating to the municipality or the region.
  • On Sunday, the hanging of the works created from Thursday to Saturday and their awarding through cash and hotel prizes from various sponsors. The main prize is donated by the respective municipality as the main organizer and at the same time requires the acquisition of the work awarded.
