Race Bank is an offshore wind farm in the United Kingdom in the North Sea . The wind farm is located around 27 kilometers off the North Norfolk coast on an area of almost 70 km 2 .

History and construction

The installation of the foundations began in June 2016. These are monopiles from the manufacturer Bilfinger Mars Offshore . The turbines were installed using the Sea Challenger installation ship . The first turbine was installed in May 2017 and then generated the wind farm's first electricity. The last turbine was installed in December 2017. Full commissioning took place on February 1, 2018 after a successful 200-hour test run of the wind farm. By then, the wind farm had already generated around one terawatt hour of electricity.

business

The wind farm is owned by Ørsted (formerly DONG Energy ) and the Macquarie Group. In December 2016 it was announced that Ørsted had sold half of his shares in Macquarie. Part of the electricity from 31 MW (125 GWh) will be delivered to the confectionery manufacturer Nestlé UK from May 2020 via an energy supply contract with a term of fifteen years.

Maintenance concept

The maintenance and repair of the wind farm for the first five years of operation will be carried out jointly by Siemens and Ørsted. For this purpose, Ørsted uses a service operation vessel that stays at sea with the technicians for up to 28 days.
