Ofu-Olosega is a twin island of the Manua Islands in American Samoa . The two islands Ofu and Olosega are only separated from each other by a 70 meter narrow waterway, the Asaga Strait . A large coral reef surrounds both islands. Ofu and Olosega represent the cone of an inactive double volcano rising above the surface of the sea . Taʻū is the closest to the two islands, 10 km away. Administratively, the archipelago forms the Manua district of American Samoa.

The two islands were connected undersea by a coral reef until 1970. The passage was so flat that you could walk from one island to another. After the construction of a bridge, the residents can now visit each other with dry feet.

Ofu

Ofu is the western of the two volcanic islands. The highest mountain on the island is the Tumu with a height of 494 m.

The most important place on the island, Ofu , is on the western shore of the island, protected by the island of Nu'utele and a number of islets made of tuff rock. Ofu has an airfield and a small port that supplies the twin island.

The southern bank and the coral reef that adjoins it is part of the American Samoa National Park .

In 2010 Ofu had 176 inhabitants who lived in an area of 7.2 km².

Olosega

Olosega is the remnant of the Sili shield volcano , the caldera of which slipped partially into the Pacific after an eruption in 1866. The Piumafua , at the junction of the Alei and Mataala ridge, is the highest point on the island at 639 m.

There are two villages on the island, Olosega and Sili. However, Sili is only inhabited by a few people as it was badly devastated after a hurricane.

In 2010 Olosega had 177 inhabitants who were spread over an area of 5.1 km².
