The Rio Oja is an approx. 65 km long tributary of the Río Tirón in the autonomous community of La Rioja in northern Spain .

The Río Oja rises from two source streams in the Sierra de la Demanda in the Iberian Mountains . It then flows through the Spanish region of La Rioja in a northeastern direction and flows into the Río Tirón about 1 km northeast of Cihuri .
The Río Oja was probably eponymous for the landscape of the Rioja .
history
In ancient times, the Río Oja or Río Tirón may have formed a kind of border between the settlement areas of the Celtic Autrigones and Berons . In the Middle Ages the area was disputed between the kingdoms of Castile and Navarre . During the time of the French occupation and the Spanish War of Independence , the places along the river experienced a difficult time of fighting and hunger.
Attractions
There are only a few significant cultural sights along the river: the small town of Santo Domingo de la Calzada is an important pilgrimage station on the Way of St. James and the town of Ezcaray has a not uninteresting church from the 15th / 16th. Century and two buildings of a textile factory from the 18th century. The upper reaches of the Río Tirón are ideal for fishing and hiking.
