In the second half of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century, the place always had between 380 and 550 inhabitants. As a result of the mechanization of agriculture and the resulting lower demand for labor, the number of residents has declined significantly since the middle of the 20th century.

history
In a document from the year 947 it is mentioned that Count Fernán González transferred another monastery called San Juan Bautista near Zifuri on the Río Tirón to the monastery of San Millán de la Cogolla . This transfer of ownership was confirmed in the 11th century by King Ferdinand I of León . Cihuri belonged to the monastery of San Millán de la Cogolla until the abolition of all manors ( señorios ) in the 19th century , even against the will of the population, which was explicitly expressed several times .
Attractions
- The parish church of San Juan Bautista is a single-nave neoclassical building from the 18th or 19th century with an altarpiece from the 18th century in the flat end of the choir. The presence of a - simply designed - south porch ( portico ) is remarkable .
- A noble building from the 17th century with a small bell gable ( espadaña ) and a stone coat of arms of the monastery of San Millan de Cogolla is called Casa del Priorato . However, it is unclear whether it was actually the residence of a prior .
- Immediately opposite a single arched medieval stone bridge - incorrectly called the Roman Bridge ( puente romano ) - crosses the Río Tirón. There are two smaller passages on both sides of the large central arch.
Fiestas
- May 15: Feast of St. Isidore of Madrid ( San Isidro Labrador )
- Third Saturday in September: Thanksgiving Day ( Fiestas de Gracias )
