Villalobar de Rioja is a small municipality ( municipio ) with 58 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019) in the northwest of the autonomous community of La Rioja in Spain .

location

The place Villalobar de Rioja is located in the northwest at an altitude of about 585  m . The distance to the eastern provincial capital Logroño is approx. 55 km (driving distance). The climate is temperate to warm; Rain (approx. 640 mm / year) falls mainly in the winter half-year.

As a result of the mechanization of agriculture , the abandonment of small farms and the resulting lower demand for labor, the number of inhabitants has declined sharply since the second half of the 20th century.

The small mountain village was and is to a large extent shaped by agriculture, especially cattle breeding.

history

In the 6th century the Moors advanced to the north of the Iberian Peninsula . In the course of the reconquest of the occupied territories by the Christians ( reconquista ) , the area around Villalobar was in the border area between the two cultures - in a document from 1120 the place was first mentioned by name as Villafavar . In 1804 the place was spun off from the city of Santo Domingo de la Calzada .
