Robres del Castillo is a mountain community (municipio ) consisting of two hamlets (pedanías) with 29 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019) in the autonomous community of La Rioja in northern Spain .

Location and climate

The place Robres del Castillo is located in the mountains of the La Rioja region about 35 km (driving distance) southeast of the provincial capital Logroño at an altitude of 735 m . The climate is temperate; Rain (approx. 580 mm / year) falls over the year.

The mechanization of agriculture and the abandonment of numerous small farms led to an exodus of the population to the cities from the beginning of the 20th century.

economy

The villages of the municipality were and are exclusively oriented towards agriculture, with cattle breeding playing a dominant role. People lived self-sufficient because the markets were too far away - a situation that only improved with the construction of an asphalt road in the second half of the 20th century.

history

The first mention of the place name comes from the year 1156. Later the area belonged to the manor (señorio) of the Lizana family . Since the 19th century, the town of Logroño has determined the fate of the gradually disintegrating mountain community.

Attractions

The ruins of several abandoned villages and hermit churches (ermitas) are located in the municipality . A single arch medieval bridge crosses the Río Jubera .
