economy

In earlier centuries, the residents of the village lived largely as a self-sufficient source of income from their fields and gardens. history

In the years 882 and 883, two historically significant battles between Christian and Muslim armies took place at the then already existing castle ( castillo ) of Cellorigo. In the high Middle Ages, the castle and the slowly developing town changed hands several times. A monastery is even mentioned, which was subordinated to the monastery of San Millán de la Cogolla in 1049 , but already about 70 years later (1117) to the monastery of Santa María la Real de Nájera - thus under the sphere of influence of the Kingdom of Navarre - got. At the end of the 13th and 14th centuries, the area became Castilian again . With the territorial reform of 1833, the town, which had previously belonged to the Castilian province of Burgos, was added to the newly created province of Logroño, from which the autonomous region of La Rioja emerged in 1982.
