history
Celtic , Roman , Visigoth and even Moorish finds have not yet been made in the municipality. In documents of the 11th century, the place is written alternately Quosquorrita , Coscorrita or Cuzcurrita ; the latter notation was later used. The place then changed the landlord (señor) several times and was fortified with a city wall. Around 1500 the Suárez de Figueroa family built the castle (castillo) , which has been privately owned since 1945 and is used for residential purposes.
Attractions
- The town's castle (Castillo de los Velasco) is dominated by a mighty, almost windowless keep (torre del homenaje) . The castle buildings with their small round corner turrets were made accessible for residential purposes after 1945 by installing windows.
- A wash house (Lavoir | lavadero) from the 19th century stands on the river bank near the castle.
- A medieval double-arched stone bridge, which was later renewed several times, spans the Río Tirón.
- The baroque church (Iglesia San Miguel) , consecrated to the Archangel Michael , with its inward and outward curved facade was built around the middle of the 18th century. The bell tower (espadaña) in particular is a fine example of late baroque architecture in the Rioja province. The altars inside already show classicist styles.
- A small scale and customs house (fellato) stands at the entrance to the village.
- A court column (rollo) rises on a hill outside the village; it was restored after a lightning strike in 1865.
- Surroundings
- The single-nave Romanesque hermit chapel (ermita) Nuestra Señora de Sorejana stands about 1800 m upstream. It has an extraordinarily richly staggered archivolt portal on the south side and a small transverse bell gable (espadaña) .
- The Ermita Nuestra Señora de Tironcillo , however, is about 3.5 km northeast of the village. It is a single-nave building from the 18th century with simple baroque shapes and a bell gable above the west facade.
Fiestas
- September 29th to October 1st: Feast of the Archangel Michael (San Miguel)
- During Pentecost, the two hermit churches are the focus of local processions and festivities.
