Ghislain Muller (born September 30, 1950 in Roubaix ) is a French jazz musician ( vibraphone , also percussion and wooden flute, composition ).

Live and act

Muller, who initially played the piano as an amateur, began learning the vibraphone as an autodidact in 1973 . He then studied in the illustration studio of the École supérieure des arts décoratifs de Strasbourg , the studio of Claude Lapointe . In 1973 he began performing with guest musicians in jazz clubs in his region. Then he played regularly with the pianist Francis David and the drummer Franco Manzecchi , mainly in France and Germany.

In 1977 he recorded a live album of the same name for Palm with the trio Transport Terrestre , which he formed with saxophonist Jean Baptiste Antonioli and bassist Philippe Poirier . With the bass player Jean-Pierre Demas he founded the quintet Paul Arzo Cie . In 1982 he was a founding member of the Sweet Chorus Formation (with accordionist Marcel Loeffler , guitarists Mandino Reinhardt , Sony Reinhardt, Patrick Andresz, clarinetist Pierre Zeidler and Demas), with whom he recorded two albums and performed regularly in Europe. He also belonged to Plan B, Urban Jazz System and Zeroklub . He founded the Vibraphone Special Project in 1989 , which released an album in 1995. As a composer, arranger and vibraphonist he is a founding member of the big band VSP Orkestra under the direction of the trombonist Pascal Beck , who recorded several albums and picture carriers, also with Arkady Shilkloper . He also performed with Cécile Verny .

In addition, Muller has been part of the management team of the Jazzdor - Festival de Jazz de Strasbourg and its “offshoots” Jazzdor Strasbourg-Berlin and Jazzdor La Saison à Strasbourg since 1986 .
