Johann Jakob Nef

Johann Jakob Nef (born December 6, 1839 in Herisau ; † March 28, 1906 St. Gallen , legal domicile in Herisau) was a Swiss textile entrepreneur.

Life

Johann Jakob Nef was born in 1839 as the son of Johann Georg Nef (1809–1887) and Anna Katharina zahner. He was a brother of Johann Georg Nef (1849–1928). He married Albertine Zellweger, daughter of Jacob Zellweger .

After training as a businessman in Herisau, Paris and Brussels , he worked in his father's textile trading company . After the move took place in 1870, part of the business moved to St. Gallen in 1870. The family business continued to exist with the distribution of sales areas between the brothers. Johann Jakob Nef took care of trade with France , his brother Johann Georg Nef took care of those with Italy . In 1891, Nef separated from the headquarters in Herisau and founded his own export business , which soon became widely known .

In 1875, Nef was the main initiator for founding the St. Gallen Industrial Association . He was the first president from 1875 to 1890. Nef earned merit by raising the embroidery industry and in commercial education .
