Johann Georg Nef (entrepreneur, 1809)

Johann Georg Nef (* 25. May 1809 in Herisau ; † 16th March 1887 ibid ; heimatberechtigt in Herisau) was a Swiss textile manufacturer and member of the Small Council , the country Eckel champion and state governors from the canton of Appenzell Outer Rhodes .

Life

Johann Georg Nef was a son of Johann Jakob Nef. In 1852 he married Elsbetha Roth, daughter of Daniel Roth and sister of Johannes Roth . He entered into a second marriage in 1835 with Anna Katharina zahner, daughter of Johannes zahner.

From 1818 to 1823 he attended private lessons in Herisau . He then went on a stay abroad. Despite inclinations towards medicine , theology and art , he joined his father's textile trading company . In 1848 it became his property. He expanded the business by installing warehouses in Brussels , Frankfurt am Main and Philadelphia . In 1862 he gave up his own production . From 1834 to 1848 he was a member of the Herisau municipal council . From 1848 to 1852 he was a member of the Small Council of Ausserrhoden. From 1849 he was this president. From 1852 to 1853 he officiated as state cover master and from 1853 to 1864 as state governor. From 1849 to 1869 he chaired the Realschule Commission. In 1843 he founded an aid association to help young people learn a trade. From 1853 to 1881 he was its president. From 1864 to 1878 he presided over the protective supervision for released convicts . Nef was committed to education and the community . As an entrepreneur and as a politician , he was guided by the principle of ora et labora .
