Oksana Lutsyshyn

Oksana Lutsyshyn (German transcription: Oksana Luzyschyn , Ukrainian Оксана Луцишин ; born July 22, 1964 in Sokal , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian - American pianist, composer and music teacher.

biography

She received her first musical training from the age of eight at the music school in Sokal. At the age of 12 she continued her studies at the Lviv music school Solomija Kruschelnytska with Lidija Golembo . In 1982 she entered the Moscow Conservatory , where she was tutored by Valery Kastelsky .

After graduating from the Moscow Conservatory in 1987, she returned to Ukraine, where she was engaged in the Chernivtsi Regional Philharmonic , but soon went back to Moscow to continue her studies at the Moscow Conservatory. During this time she took part in an international piano competition in the USA, which she won. She then received an invitation to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York .

After completing her postgraduate studies in Moscow in 1991, she moved to the USA, where she continued her studies at the Bloomington University of Music.

Professional career

During her time in the United States from 1993 to 1997, Lutsyshyn taught at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University Bloomington . She was the companion of violinists Josef Gingold and Joshua Bell in the documentary film Joshua Bell , which was broadcast on the BBC in 1994 in the Omnibus series.

In 1996 Lutsyshyn took part in the Vienna competition for Modern Masters of Recording and achieved second place. In October 1997 she accompanied Isaac Stern and three of his master students in the Chandler Concert Hall . In 2004 she took part in the 23rd Virtuoso International Music Festival in Lviv, where she gave a concert and played in a duo with Andrey Kasparov . In 2003 she founded the piano duo Invencia Piano Duo with Andrey Kasparov .

Oksana Lutsyshyn is Professor of Piano and Music Theory in the Faculty of Music at Old Dominion University . She is also the music director and organist at the Lutheran Church in Virginia Beach .
