Ole Andreas Lindeman
Ole Andreas Lindeman (born January 17, 1769 in Nachbaradal , Norway ; † February 26, 1857 in Trondhjem, today Trondheim , Norway) was a Norwegian composer and organist .
Life
At the age of 18 he already represented the organist of the Frauenkirche (Vår Frue kirke) in Trondheim. In 1789 he moved to Copenhagen to right to study. Here he learned u. a. Johann Abraham Peter Schulz and Israel Gottlieb Wernicke know. As a student of the latter, he was initiated into an authentic Bach tradition that went back to Johann Philipp Kirnberger . In 1799 he was back in Trondheim and took the position of organist at the Frauenkirche. He kept this position until his death. From the same year he organized numerous concerts in Trondheim with music by z. B. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Joseph Haydn , Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach and Christoph Willibald von Gluck . He also translated, wrote and edited a considerable number of music theoretical works, such as B. from Kirnberger. One of his students was a later student of Chopin , namely the Trondheim pianist Thomas Dyke Acland Tellefsen . He became the father of five sons, three of whom were to follow in their father's footsteps and work as organists. The best known of these is Ludvig Mathias Lindeman .
Lindeman's compositions are mostly simple dance movements that do not reflect his interest in Bach's music. His organ book from 1838, in which the search for more authentic musical movements can be guessed at, is of particular importance . He actually wanted the original rhythmic form of the Reformation derived hymns recover, but the resistance was too large and the existing singing tradition too strong.
