Oleg Cassini

Oleg Cassini , born as Count Oleg Loiewski , (born April 11, 1913 in Paris , † March 17, 2006 on Long Island , New York ) was an American fashion designer.

Live and act

Oleg Cassini was born in Paris in 1913 as the son of Russian noblemen. His father was Count Alexander Loiewski, his grandfather was Count Arthur P. Cassini, who had represented the Russian Empire as ambassador to the USA . However, he grew up in Denmark and Italy, where he attended the English Catholic School and later studied in Florence at the Accademia di Belle Arti . In 1933 he made his first clothing items in his mother's fashion salon, Countess Marguerite Cassini. After a guest appearance with the French fashion designer Jean Patou in Paris , he opened his own salon in Rome . In 1936 he moved to the USA, where he initially stayed in New York City . After his divorce he worked in Hollywood as a costume designer in the local film studios.

During the Second World War he served in the US Army. Cassini founded a fashion house in Manhattan after the war . Cassini became known for his creations in the 50s and 60s. His own career as a creator of high-priced collections began after Jacqueline Kennedy made him the official fashion designer. From 1961 to 1963 he designed around 300 dresses for Jacqueline Kennedy, whom he also advised as a stylist .

He also dressed many great actors, including Joan Fontaine , Joan Crawford , Marilyn Monroe and Natalie Wood , and women from the big world of that time. Talk show host Johnny Carson was also one of his clients. Cassini's relationship with Grace Kelly , to whom he was also engaged, was in the rainbow press at the time .

He was married to actress Gene Tierney from 1941 to 1952 , with whom he had two daughters.

On March 17, 2006, he died of a cerebral haemorrhage in a Long Island hospital.
