Oleg Jurjewitsch Tinkow ( Russian Олег Юрьевич Тиньков , often also Oleg Tinkov or Oleg Tinkoff ; emphasis: Olég Tinków ; born December 25, 1967 in Leninsk-Kuznetsky , Kemerovo Oblast , Soviet Union ) is a Russian entrepreneur. He gained international fame primarily as the operator of the professional cycling team Tinkoff .

Career

Tinkow was born the son of a Siberian miner and spent his youth throughout the Far Eastern regions of the Soviet Union . During his university studies in Leningrad , he took part in numerous road cycling races as an amateur . During the dissolution of the Soviet Union , however, he broke off his academic training and founded his first company, Petrosib , in 1993 , through which he organized the import of electronic goods and sound carriers to Russia.

In 1997 he sold the company and immediately founded the Darja company for the production of ready meals . The proceeds of the sale of his second company enabled him to found Tinkoff Brewery and open a nationwide chain of twelve restaurants under the same brand name.

Thanks to aggressive marketing and modern standards, Tinkow increased the production of his brewery to 20 million liters per year in a very short time. In 2007 he finally sold the company to the Belgian group Inbev for the equivalent of 123 million euros . At the same time he founded the company Tinkoff Credit Systems , with which he subsequently revolutionized Internet marketing and online banking in Russia. The company operates occasionally as Tinkoff Bank and acts primarily as a credit card provider .

In 2012, Tinkow considered the possibility of selling his financial institution, for which he regularly appears in commercials himself. At that time, he was interested in getting into aviation .

Apart from his entrepreneurial activity, Tinkow is also active in road cycling, following on from his youth. As early as 2005, Tinkow sponsored the cycling team Team Tinkoff Credit Systems , named after his company at the time , for which he was also registered as a racing cyclist in 2006 . The team existed until the end of the 2008 season. He then became one of the main sponsors of the UCI WorldTeam Tinkoff-Saxo , led by Bjarne Riis , which he bought in 2013 for the equivalent of 6 million euros and which he was actively involved in planning. The team was disbanded at the end of 2016.

In May 2020 it became known that Oleg Tinkov had leukemia .
