Olelkowicz Słucki
Olelkovich ( Polish : Kniaź Olelkowicz-Slucki Herbu Pogoń Litewska , plural : Olelkowicze-Słuccy ; Lithuanian : Olelkaičiai ) is the name of an extinct Lithuanian - Ruthenian princely family , of the tribe Gediminas .
history
The family belonged to the richest and wealthiest families in Lithuania . The family line begins with the great-grandson of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas, Alexander called Olelko († 1454), Prince of Kopyl and Sluzk and, since 1441, Prince of Kiev . In 1417 he married Anastasia († 1470), a Rurikid princess. His brother Iwan (documented 1422-1446) was the founder of the also extinct family of Prince Bielski.
A historically known representative of the family was Prince Michael Olelkowicz Słucki († 1481). His sister, Princess Eudokia Olelkowicz Słucka, was married to Stefan the Great of Moldova .
With Prince Simon IV. Olelkowicz Słucki († 1592) the sex in the male line has died out. His niece, Princess Sophia Olelkowicz Słucka (1585-1612), was in 1600 with Prince Janusz VI. Radziwiłł married. She left no descendants and is venerated by the Orthodox Church as Saint Zofia and was at the same time the last of her line.
It was not until the 17th century that the burial chapel in the St. John's Cathedral in Lublin was made of marble for Prince Olelkowicz Słucki.
