The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Martin am Grimming stands on the northern edge of the center of the former municipality of St. Martin am Grimming in the Liezen district in Styria . It is consecrated to St. Martin and is located in the dean's office of Upper Ennstal - Styrian Salzkammergut . The church is a listed building .

history

The church was first mentioned in a document in 1201 when it was donated to Admont Abbey . To this day the church is incorporated into Admont Abbey . Until 1787 it was a branch church of the Gröbming parish church , since then it has been its own parish.

The current church building was erected in 1738 and the interior was restored in 1959.

Church building

The parish church is a three-bay hall room with a 3/8 end and square vaults on Gurten . The end of the choir is rounded towards the outside. The pillars are tiered. In the vault of the Mitteljoch is the coat of arms of Abbot Antonius II. Von Mainersberg from the year 1737.

The outer facade is structured by plaster strips . A roof turret with a small, curved helmet sits above the west facade.

Furnishing

The high altar bears the arms of Abbot Urban Weber from 1650. He probably comes from the Castle Church of St. Martin in the Castle of St. Martin in Graz district Straßgang . It is attributed to the Admont sculptor Georg Remele . The central sculpture of the altar, which depicts Saint Martin on horseback, has been in the Universalmuseum Joanneum since 1937 . It was replaced by a picture that was taken around 1700. The carved figures on the side depict St. Barbara and St. Catherine . St. Ulrich is depicted in the top, flanked by the statues of the holy deacons as well as of St. Ulrich and St. Blaise . The figures date from the second quarter of the 18th century. The tabernacle dates from the second half of the 18th century.

The small side altar pieces with statues of Saints Joachim and Anna were created in the second half of the 18th century. An altar fragment with foliage and an altarpiece “ Holy Trinity ” was created around 1700. The pulpit was created at the beginning of the 18th century. The organ case dates from the second quarter of the 18th century. The organ is from 1926. In the church there is a late Gothic wooden relief from 1515 depicting St. Lawrence . It comes from Lienhart Astl's workshop and comes from a path chapel. A restoration took place in 1958. The statue of St. Margaret was created around 1520. It was restored in 1957.
