The Catholic parish church of Gröbming is elevated in the market town of Gröbming in the Liezen district in Styria . The Roman Catholic parish church , consecrated to the feast of the Assumption of Mary , belongs to the dean's office of Upper Ennstal - Styrian Salzkammergut in the diocese of Graz-Seckau . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

In 1170 a church was first mentioned in a document. It was subordinate to the Diocese of Chiemsee and has belonged to the Admont Abbey as the patronage church since 1690 .

Today's late Gothic church is dated 1491 on the west facade and 1500 on the front arch . It was probably built by a master from Salzburg or Braunau and the interior was restored in 1906 and 1968.

architecture

The church interior is powerful and high. The four-bay nave with a strongly constricted, profiled pointed arch as the front arch is followed by an almost equally wide two-bay choir with a five-eighth end . The church has ribbed vaults on profiled wall pillars with three-quarter round service in front, in the choir with a kinked row. The tracery windows have two and three lanes - in the choir with an overarching round medallion. The stained glass is from the second half of the 19th century. In the eastern nave yoke, side chapels are built on both sides in front of the fron arch. The southern Gothic side chapel has a star rib vault, related to Lassing. The north side chapel, baroque with stucco from the 18th century, is raised by eight steps.

Furnishing

Gothic winged altar around 1520 by Lienhart Astl

The mighty pillar high altar from 1775 carries the statues of Saints Wolfgang and Rupert and angels from the old high altar.

On the north wall of the choir is a large, well-preserved late Gothic winged altar , a rood screen or lay altar, in this location since 1664. The winged altar was created around 1520 in Lienhart Astl's workshop and was restored from 1950 to 1954. The shrine without a back wall and designed for light shining through it carries Christ with the Twelve Apostles on three floors . The wing sides show four reliefs: the flagellation, the crowning of thorns, the lamentation under the cross and the resurrection after woodcuts by Hans Schäufelein . The painted weekday pages also show Passion scenes, painted by a painter from the Danube School based on woodcuts by Albrecht Altdorfer . Christ on the cross between the two thieves and Mary and John are in the middle. The predella shows an image of St. Rosalia from 1665. The pews are from the early 16th century.

The organ from 1782 was transferred here from Admont.
