Olga-Marie Freifrau von Gemmingen-Guttenberg , b. Freiin von Saint-André (born July 10, 1916 in Karlsruhe ; † November 1, 1990 ) was a descendant of the barons of Saint-André landowner in Königsbach . About her mother, she was also co-heiress of Bonfelder upper castle the barons of Gemmingen -Guttenberg.

While the Bonfeld Upper Castle was sold, she ensured the continued existence of the von Saint-André family by adopting the war orphan Achim von Arnim. Because their marriage to Philipp von Gemmingen-Guttenberg (from the younger sub-branch Bonfeld-Dammhof ) also remained childless, the couple also adopted their nephew in order to ensure the continued existence of the Gemmingen house of Dammhof . She was an honorary citizen of Pfinztal . In Königsbach, Saint-Andre-Strasse has been named after her since 1990 .

Life

She was the daughter of the Grand Duke of Baden Chamberlain Wilhelm von Saint-André and his wife Luise von Gemmingen-Guttenberg (branch Bonfeld Oberschloss). She spent her school days in various boarding schools , then became a kindergarten teacher and ran an after- school care center in Pforzheim until 1939 . On September 21, 1939, she married Philipp Ludwig Carl Ferdinand Gemmo von Gemmingen-Guttenberg (Younger Unterzweig Bonfeld-Dammhof) in Heidelberg , who was soon called to the fronts of the Second World War , which had broken out , and was wounded several times there. Meanwhile, Olga-Marie lived with her mother at Königsbach Castle , which during the war was also occupied by the military and a department of the Pforzheim hospital.

She had two brothers who died childless in 1937 and 1944, making her the last descendant of the Barons of Saint-André. As a result, she became the landowner in Königsbach, the owner of the castle there and the owner of numerous other goods, including the Schwarzerdhof estate in Bretten .

After the childless death of her uncle and the last descendants of the Bonfeld-Oberschloss branch of the Barons of Gemmingen, Hans von Gemmingen-Guttenberg (1878–1940), his property fell to his sisters Marie Luise (1877–1945), married to Edgar von Rotberg ( 1898–1932), and Luise (1880–1955), Olga-Marie's mother. Between 1951 and 1958, Olga-Marie and her co-heir, her cousin Hans von Rotberg (1899–1967), sold the upper castle in Bonfeld to the current owners, the Gebhard family. The other real estate of the Bonfeld-Oberschloss line was also sold. In 1953, she and her mother handed over the family archive of the von Saint-André to the General State Archives in Karlsruhe .

After the end of the war, Olga-Marie and her husband, who had returned from prison, moved into the Dammhof . In the post-war period, her husband managed the Saint-André property as a rent officer and from 1958 he managed the Dammhof himself.

When it became clear that the couple would have no offspring either, in 1961 Olga-Marie adopted the war orphan and Königsbach foster son Achim von Arnim (* 1942), whose descendants have since been named von Saint-André-Arnim . In 1986, Olga-Marie and Philipp von Gemmingen-Guttenberg finally adopted the son Horst Dieter (* 1943) from Philipp's sister Christa, who succeeded the couple at the Dammhof and has since been named Gemmingen-Guttenberg .

In 1985, she donated 15 hectares of forest, the so-called Edelmannswald in the district of Söllingen, which had been owned by Saint-André since 1650 , to the Pfinztal community from the old Saint-Andréschem property . A memorial stone in that forest commemorates the donation.

Olga-Marie von Gemmingen-Guttenberg was made an honorary citizen of the Pfinztal community, and in 1990 Saint-Andre-Strasse in Königsbach was named after her. She is buried in the family cemetery of the Barons von Saint-André in Königsbach. The castle in Königsbach and the family cemetery were transferred to a foundation after her death.
