Olga Petrovna Bondarenko

Olga Petrovna Bondarenko ( Russian Ольга Петровна Бондаренко , born Кренцер , Krenzer ; born June 2, 1960 in Slavgorod ) is a former Russian long-distance runner and Olympic champion of Russian-German descent who competed for the Soviet Union .

Bondarenko started her career at a time when the long distance was still 3000 meters at the most important championships . Under her maiden name Olga Krenzer, she already set the first world record in the 10,000 meter run on August 7, 1981 with a time of 32: 30.8 minutes , at a time when the IAAF had not yet started this discipline. On June 24, 1984, she set the first official world record in this discipline with a time of 31: 13.78 minutes in Kiev under her current name.

At the European Championships in 1986 in Stuttgart , she won the gold medal over 3000 and the silver medal over 10,000 meters.

At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 , she won the gold medal over 10,000 meters ahead of Liz McColgan (GBR) and Jelena Schupijewa-Vjasowa (URS).
