Olgina is a village ( Estonian alevik ) in the rural municipality of Vaivara ( Vaivara vald ). It is located in Ida-Viru County ( East Wierland ) in northeast Estonia .

Description and history

The village has 523 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2012). It is five kilometers from the city center of the third largest Estonian city, Narva . During the Soviet occupation of Estonia, it was the center of a collective farm .

Olgina was built on the site of destroyed villages after the Second World War . The village of Tunderküla (also Tünderküla) used to be there. It has been documented since 1499. Nearby was the village of Olgino, which was also completely destroyed in the fighting between the Red Army and the German Wehrmacht .

An underground cemetery belongs to the area of ​​the place. It was used from the 15th to the 18th century. The facility is now a listed building.

In 1700, during the beginning of the Great Northern War, thousands of Swedish and Russian soldiers were killed in the fighting in the area.

The historic manor house of Vana-Olgina ("Old Olgina") is a tourist destination today. It also offers overnight accommodation.
